PROJECT: Oxford Street House

The clients began their renovation with the kitchen and laundry room.  The living room is currently underway – stay tuned!  The clients love the location of their home overlooking White Rock Beach and the Gulf Islands but wanted to bring a more contemporary look into the house.

To do that, we selected black walnut cabinetry with a flat door, white Caesarstone countertops and a solid surface backsplash in the same material. The appliances are stainless, the custom charcoal Silgranite sink adds a punch of contrast in the white countertop, and the handles are pure jewellery! The client had seen these handles years before and was excited to finally be able to use them herself. For a number of reasons the clients selected vinyl tile flooring in the kitchen. There are such great options available in this material and this tile adds beautiful colour and texture to the space.

We configured the countertop along the sink wall to incorporate a small seating area for the owners to enjoy their morning coffee, facing the view to the west. This spot previously housed the breakfast table, but building in cabinetry and having the countertop run flush into the bottom of the windows gave a much cleaner, more cohesive look to the kitchen. One wall was removed and replaced with a peninsula to open the entire kitchen up to the main view to the south, through the dining room and generous deck. The clients love entertaining and also wanted the kitchen to be more open to their guests as well.

In the laundry room, the cabinetry was extended along the wall opposite the washer and dryer to increase storage, hanging space, and add shoe storage. The light grey painted finish kept the room feeling open and spacious.
